8 SANS RECRUITED TO DEFEND SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR ILE-IFE MAYHEM

Following the arrest of about 20 Yoruba after the crisis that rocked  Ile-Ife Osun State recently, eight senior lawyers and several legal practitioners are set to stand for the affected people at the Federal High Court, in Abuja.
It was gathered that the eight Senior Advocates of Nigeria were assembled by the Pan-Yoruba sociopolitical organization, Afenifere, to defend the 20 Ile-Ife indigenes who were paraded at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The lawyers, it was also gathered are expected to file a motion for the enforcement of fundamental human rights for the suspects.

The team is also expected to file an application asking the court to transfer the matter to Ile-Ife where the Osun State High Court is located.
National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, said the group have consulted the service of eight lawyers.
He said: “For now we have eight prominent Senior Advocates of Nigeria and several lawyers on the legal team and I can tell you that more lawyers are joining the team.”
“Afenifere leaders will converge in Akure on Tuesday for an emergency meeting to discuss the arrest and on Wednesday, move to Ile Ife to pay a solidarity visit to families of the detained suspects.
‘’Our visit is to encourage them and let them know that they are not alone.”
Recall that 38 people were arrested after a clash between the Yoruba and the Hausa living in the ancient city of Ile-Ife.
