Nigerian Pop Star TEKNO to Break In North America?

Last year, the Nigerian star Tekno heard an instrumental that reminded him of his breakout hit, "Duro." Though the producer, Krizbeatz, was planning to send the beat elsewhere, Tekno asked to take a crack at it. "Then I went upstairs and ate the beat up," the singer tells Billboard. "The feeling I had when I recorded that? I fell in love with my own song like it wasn't mine."
That single, titled "Pana," has gone on to entrap other listeners the same way it conquered its creator, accumulating 30 million streams between YouTube and Spotify. Veterans like Trey Songz and Ludacris have posted clips of themselves listening to the song on Instagram, and "Pana" also caught the attention of Imran Majid, senior vice president of A&R at Columbia, who signed the track and re-released it in December.
Tekno's connection with Columbia is the latest step forward in an inch-by-inch acknowledgement of the commercial viability of Nigerian pop in the U.S. Most of those steps have come via collaborations sprinkled over the last five years -- P-Square and Rick Ross, D'banj and Kanye West, Davido and Meek Mill, Wizkid and Major Lazer, Wizkid and R. Kelly. Nigerian-born Ayo Jay had a minor hit with "Your Number" last year, which got some attention when Fetty Wap appeared on one remix, and Chris Brown and Kid Ink on another. The best-known recent example of a Nigerian-Western team-up is Drake's "One Dance," which included Wizkid. Wizkid is now signed to RCA -- also the home of Davido and Ayo Jay -- with an album due out on the label this summer.

He also said that his lovely wife is aware of the friendship between them and is okay with it.
When questioned, if he would have married Juliet if he wasn’t married, the actor said yes.
Excerpts:
You have a very close relationship with Juliet Ibrahim, how does your wife react to that?
She’s okay with it. My wife is a professional through and through. When we were shooting ‘The Distance Between’, my wife wrote the script. She wrote my character to have a romantic relationship with both Rita Dominic and Mercy Johnson. She was on set while we were shooting and after doing a kissing scene with Mercy Johnson, my wife called me aside and said “That kiss is not real. You need to make it real”.
She knows that as long as I’m on set, it’s my job and I’m doing the kissing not because I’m enjoying a kiss from a woman, but because it’s the character doing the kissing, not me. If I kiss a girl outside the set, I’ll have a lot of questions to answer. She knows about me and Juliet.
Was it movies that brought Juliet Ibrahim and you together?
Yes. The funny thing is I’ve heard about her, seen her and the first time we really had time to relate was when we shot the movie ‘ Corporate Operations’ with Alex Mouth in Abuja, but there was no time to bond. Shortly after that, she called me while she was in Ghana and there was this movie we were shooting ‘Number One Fan’, starring myself and her.

I went over to Ghana for the movie and that was where we really had the chance to bond. I knew her real person behind the screen, she’s nice, hardworking, dedicated and focused and those are the qualities I appreciate in a human being. We are still friends till today. I was at her birthday party sometime ago in Lagos and we had a great time partying all night long. Once again, my wife knows about it.
If you weren’t already married, would you have married Juliet; is she your kind of person?
Yes, she’s my kind of person. She’s smart, dedicated, but it’s a pity I’m not single. It’s a great thing I met my wife first and if you ask me, ‘If I had to do it all over again, would I change anything?’. I’d tell you it’s nice to be with someone with whom everyday is a new day with its own challenges, rewards and beauty. My wife is creative, crazy, lovable and she’s my love.

GENEVIVE VS OMOTALA

Omotola Vs Genevieve By the Numbers

Ask anybody in the Nigerian music industry and they’ll tell you that it is a cut-throat world, in the sense that competition is rife amongst all involved in Nollywood, be it record labels, marketers, entourages or the actors themselves. Competition is definitely one of the things that keep the industry going. ESSENTIALS examines two of Nollywood’s most talked about actresses who have earned more than their fair share of bragging rights. Nollywood’s story won’t be complete without tales of their supposed rivalry and who is better. We set their statistics side by side – not judging.
Genevieve Nnaji
Born Genevieve Nnaji on May 3, 1979, Genevieve started her acting career as a child actress in the then-popular television soap opera Ripples, at the age of eight. She was also featured in several commercials, among which were some for beverage brand Pronto and detergent Omo. In 1998, at the age of 19, she took her first big step in acting with her debut movie Most Wanted.
Her subsequent movies Last Party, Mark of the Beast and Ijele endeared the Imo State-born actress to movie lovers everywhere.
In 2002, she starred in the movie Sharon Stone and after its release; it is safe to say that Nnaji’s reign as one of Nigeria’s top actresses began.
Nnaji doesn’t just appeal to Nigerians alone. She can count many Kenyans, Liberians, South Africans and Ghanaians, who are avid followers and dedicated lovers of Nigerian home videos, both home and abroad, as her fans.
Not only is ‘Genny’ (as she is fondly called) an actress, she is also a fashion designer. She launched her clothing line St. Genevieve in 2008. Though much hasn’t been heard about the clothing line, she did promise, at its launch, to donate a percentage of its proceeds to charity.
In 2009, Nnaji made history by being the first Nigerian actress to be profiled on The Oprah Winfrey Show, on an episode about the most popular people around the world. As one of the highest-paid and most desired actresses in Nollywood, Nnaji is also referred to as “Nigeria’s Julia Roberts”.
She has featured in over 80 films in the course of her acting career, but she will be best remembered for her roles in Ijé: The Journey, Mirror Boy, Half of a Yellow Sun, Most Wanted, Blood Sisters among many. She has endorsed companies such as Etisalat Nigeria, Lux Soap, MUD Cosmetics, among others, with some still on-going.
In an ill-advised attempt to, perhaps, branch out, Nnaji ventured into music, with the album One Logologo Line, with the most notable number from the album being No More.
Nnaji is also not immune to controversies. Her seemingly eternal single status has been fodder for many gossip blogs and magazines. The ‘lesbian’ rumours surrounding her seems to keep rearing its ugly head and her perceived rivalry with Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde is also the stuff of legends.
In recognition of her contribution to Nollywood, Nnaji was awarded the national merit award of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) in 2011. Nnaji has also won various awards, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for best actress in a leading role and the City People Awards for Best Actress.

Omotola Jalade Ekeinde
Born Omotola Jalade on February 7, 1978, Ekeinde made her acting debut in the movie Venom of Justice in 1995. Since then she has appeared in over 300 movies. She came to limelight after she starred in the critically acclaimed movie Mortal Inheritance.
Also, Ekeinde doesn’t just appeal to Nigerians alone; she enjoys a large international following. The actress has won awards in almost all the continents of the world.
Not only is ‘Omosexy’ (as she is fondly called) an actress, she is also a singer, philanthropist and former model. The actress who became a United Nations WFP (World Food Programme) Ambassador in 2005 has also been active in the Walk the World Project and participated in the Walk the World Campaign in Liberia, with President Ellen Sirleaf-Johnson. Ekeinde is known as a fierce human rights campaigner and her philanthropic efforts are centred on her NGO, Omotola Youth Empowerment Programme (OYEP). Ekeinde became an Amnesty International campaigner in 2011 and has participated in campaigns in Sierra Leone (on maternal mortality) and Nigeria’s Niger Delta region.
She also takes advantage of the social media to connect with her fans and share her own unique views with the rest of the world. Ekeinde is regarded as the first African celebrity to receive over 1 million likes on her Facebook page.
In 2013, she was honoured in Time Magazine’s list of the ‘100 most influential people in the world’ alongside Michelle Obama, Beyonce and Kate Middleton.
In 2012, CNN Travel noted Ekeinde’s famous accent on their list of the ‘world’s 12 sexiest accents’, with the Nigerian accent ranked 5th on the list. She is also regarded as the first Nigerian celebrity to star in their own reality show – her reality show Omotola: The Real Me was launched in 2012 on Africa Magic Entertainment, a subsidiary of M-Net, broadcast on DStv.
In early 2013, Ekeinde made her US television debut in VH1’s scripted series, Hit the Floor. Some of her most prominent films include Ijé: The Journey, Last Flight to Abuja, Amina and Mirror Boy and Blood Sisters. She has endorsed products of Ghadour Cosmetics, online store Konga, Hollandia, Proctor & Gamble, amongst others, with some of these endorsements still on going.
Ekeinde has proved to be more versatile when it comes to music. She released her debut album GBA in 2005. The singles Naija L’owa and The Things you do to Me were included in the album. Her sophomore album Me, Myself, and Eyes was released soon after.
Ekeinde has managed to remain scandal-free throughout her career. The only time controversy was added to her name was when she lashed out at journalists who labeled some of her 12-year old daughter’s photos “sexy”.
Omotola is married and is a proud mother of four lovely children.
In recognition of Ekeinde’s contribution to Nollywood, she was conferred with a chieftaincy title in her home-state of Ondo. The African continent has been battling with the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) scourge and only recently was Nigeria declared an Ebola-free country by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The deadly disease found its way into the country after a Liberian American named Patrick Sawyer, who was believed to be an Ebola patient, entered Nigeria for a summit in Calabar, Cross River State. Shortly after arriving Lagos, he was rushed to a hospital, but later died and threw Nigeria into panic.
The Federal and Lagos State governments battled hard to win the war against the virus. Though few persons died in Nigeria of the disease, but many who were infected were cured.
Ahead of the 2014 edition of the annual and prestigious ‘The Future Awards Africa’ (TFAA) has announced Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Asa Elemide and others for its global campaign to get 1million young Africans to act against Ebola in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.
To this effect, the #StopEbola campaign has been launched and will be led by TFAA Young Person of the Year 2013, Ashish Thakkar.

Speaking on the initiative, Genevieve said, “Ebola has been defeated in Nigeria.” She added that, “This shows that with the will and resources it can be defeated anywhere else. We need to get involved beyond talk and beyond sympathy. As long as it remains anywhere in Africa, we are all at risk, and we can come together to stop this from happening. Join me, and join all of us now.”
In the same vein, Omotola said, “This goes to the core of what is important to me, and what should be important to all of us who are very concerned about our continent.
“Just when the world has begun to pay attention to Africa as a destination for rapid growth and investment, we cannot allow Ebola define the narrative. We need to put a stop to this immediately, and young people need to take the lead.”
Others expected to join in the campaign include 2Face Idibia, Van Vicker, Joselyn Dumas, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi, Dayo Israel, Denrele, Dakore Akande, Juliet Ibrahim, Funke Akindele, Omoni Oboli, Ohimai Atafo, Joseph Benjamin, Ice Prince, MI Abaga, Omawumi, Waje, Lynxx, Yemi Adamolekun, Gbenga Sesan, Kunle Afolayan, Osas Ighodaro, Yegwa Ukpo and Kathleen Ndongmo.

2face IdibiaSinger At War With Kinsmen As They Threaten To Kidnap His Mother

A source based in Benue tells Pulse that the singer has not been in good terms with his kinsmen. The straw that however broke the camel's back was his inability to finance the building of a 'proper' family house to bury his late father.

2FACE AND HIS MUM

Nigerian singer 2face Idibia is currently at war with the youths of his community who have accused him and his mother of being disrespectful towards his kinsmen.
2face was in his village Amufu in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State last week, Thursday, November, 6 and he was not well received by his kinsmen. An eye witness in the village where 2face buried his father told Pulse that the youth threatened to beat up 2face and kidnap his mother Mrs Rose Idibia.
The eye witness revealed that the youths were angry with 2face for not erecting a standard family house where he was supposed to bury his dad. When his father died, Pulse learnt that his kinsmen gave him some requirements that must be met before burying his father. Some of the requirements were that 2face was to build a proper family house in Amufu where his dad would be buried and thereafter repair the road leading to the village for easy access for guest coming for the burial.
2face according to Pulse sources agreed to the requirements and started building a house. The singer however stopped half way with the excuse that he had ran out of money which made the kinsmen angry. Further investigation by the elders of the family revealed that 2face’s mum had ordered his son to stop the building project.
“It is common knowledge that 2face’s mum ordered him to stop building the house. She doesn’t see the need of him building a house in the village where he won’t be visiting anytime soon. She also feels 2face’s uncle in the village will take control of the house,” the source told Pulse.
Angry youths of the village made their displeasure known to 2face and his mother immediately they entered the village for the burial. They pelted 2face and his family with stones and made moves to fight him, threatening to kidnap his mum.
They threatened to stop the burial and demanded an audience with 2face’s mum who with the help of the community’s Catholic Priest pleaded with the kinsmen to allow the funeral to go on and promised to complete the project after the burial. According to Pulse sources, 2face’s mum denied ordering her son to stop the project.
2face is not liked here in his village and in the Idoma community as a whole unlike the other two music stars Terry G and Blackface. Terry G for example has a big house he built for his family here in the village even when he hardly visits,” the source also said.
After his father was laid to rest, 2face was said to have hurriedly left the village. Him and his mum were not hurt as there were protected by tight security. His wife, Annie Idibia and his manager Efe Omorogbe were also with him.
All efforts to get words from 2face’s publicist have been unsuccessful as his phones were switched off as at time of this report.
This is not the first time 2face is having a run in with the youths of his community. In 2012 during the burial of his grandmother, youths of the village made it known to him that he wasn’t welcome in the village.
Last Christmas during the Mark The Ball event organised by Senate President David Mark in Otupko, 2face was also booed by the crowd.

Confirmed! Diddy Defeats Jay Z As Wealthiest Man In Hip Hop 2014

What did Diddy use to kick out Jay Z, who has reigned as the Cash King for so long?

JAY Z AND SEAN DIDDY
Jay Z has been dethroned as the richest hip hop star in the world. And no one else but his friend and business mogul, Sean 'Diddy' Combs is now the Richest Man in hip hop.
According to the recent Forbes list, Diddy ranks No. 1 on this year’s Forbes Five, list of hip-hop’s wealthiest artists, with an estimated net worth of $580 million. The bulk of the Bad Boy Records founder’s wealth comes from non-musical ventures, namely his deal with Diageo ’s Ciroc. The agreement entitles him to eight-figure annual payouts and a nine-figure windfall if the brand is ever sold and Ciroc’s value has never been higher.
The No. 2 spot goes to Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, with a net worth of $475 million. He’s still rolling in cash from megadeals like his $204 million Rocawear sale in 2007 and his $150 million pact with Live Nation the following year.
Andre “Dr. Dre” Young ranks third with $350 million, thanks mostly to his Beats by Dr. Dre headphones. Bryan “Birdman” Williams owns the No. 4 spot, riding his Cash Money/Young Money empire to a fortune of $150 million and rounding off the list is Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson at $125 million; with the bulk of his fortune coming from heavy sales of his music, merchandise, video games and books in the wake of his smash debut Get Rich or Die Tryin’ and particularly from his payout for the sale of his stake in Vitamin Water parent Glacéau to Coca-Cola in 2007.

The War Has Just Begun

Tyga says he won't allow Kim K dictate his life or allow her to trash him to her sisters because of his relationship with Kylie.

Kim Kardashian and Tyga fighting?
Well, the war began when the reality star cropped the rapper out of a family photo she posted on Instagram, taken at French Montana's 30 birthday bash in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Apparently, the 34-year-old TV star doesn't approve of the former Cash Money star's relationship with her kid sister Kylie Jenner. Especially given the fact that Tyga's ex baby mama, Blac Chyna is a very good friend.
A source connected to Kim told TMZ, that she didn't have any issue with whom Kylie decides to date but felt it was disrespectful of them, and their 'friendship' placed her in a difficult situation.
Well, does that justify her cropping him out of that photo? Looks like the rapper didn't find the act right.
According to Hollywood Life, a source close to the father of one told them:
"Tyga didn’t really know Kim had an issue with him hanging out and working on projects with Kylie. Tyga thought he was cool with Kim and everybody else in the family. He doesn’t have a problem with Kim, but he’s not about to let her dictate his life or allow her to trash him to her sisters and the rest of the family,”
The source also added that: “Tyga doesn’t understand why Kim is bothered by his friendship with Kylie. He thinks she’s overreacting, but whatever…. He’s going to be him, regardless [Kim's feelings]”
Meanwhile, Momager Kris Jenner had previously denied there is anything going on between Tyga and Kylie saying the “boys just show up [at my house] because of my cooking.” In addition, Tyga slammed a fan on Twitter last month for questioning his relationship with Kylie.
However, it remains uncertain if Kim purposefully took him out of that photo or she deliberately did it because she didn't want her friend Blac to feel she's siding the new “TyLie” alleged secret affair.
But what do you think? Do you see a fight here?

CHRIS BROWN AND RIHANNA BACK IN LOVE{?

Chris Brown and Rihanna are rumoured to have reunited given their actions and words over the last few weeks. Brown recently publicly cut ties with model girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, saying he didn’t want her to get hurt over his friendship with former mate, Rihanna, according to MTV today.
Now pictures have hit the Web that show Tran leaving Brown’s house, the two setting off in separate vehicles and hooking back up at an L.A. area convenience store where Brown appeared to pay for Karrueche Tran’s gasoline. This happened after Brown and Rihanna were seen acting affectionately at a public event in Beverly Hills last week Saturday night.
And now, rumors have suggested that Rihanna and Brown are about to go public with their relationship, especially as they were caught kissing last week Saturday night. Rihanna continued to hint at the pair’s reconciliation by tweeting Bible excerpts such as, Forgiveness wins, followed later by, For if you forgive people their trespasses… your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
Rihanna is almost done recording her newest single Color Girl, a title that doesn’t go without notice for its perhaps veiled message about her reuniting with Chris Brown. It’s widely held that the singer is waiting for the single’s release to officially announce her relationship with Chris Brown again. Some sources have gone so far as to suggest the two are planning to elope.
According to an insider, “That’s why you’ve been seeing them together a lot more recently. She’s just biding her time and letting people get used to it”.
The N.Y. Post News reported that at a recent Chris Brown event, Rihanna was never far from Chris Brown’ side as the two got cosy on the couches at Plum Crazy, a night club. The couple chatted with their heads bent close together and were even spotted sharing drinks and a few kisses.
In early October, Rihanna and Brown were seen partying at several NYC clubs, and even attended Jay-Z’s concert at the Barclay’s Centre, later that week.
A few days later, Brown released a drunken video where he contemplated the possibility of being in love with two people at the same time. It seemed obvious at the time he was talking about his renewed affection for Rihanna as well as still caring for Karrueche Tran.

How I’ve coped with childlessness for 11 years, by Gospel singer Liza C

POPULAR gospel singer
Elizabeth Ndidi Moses, aka Liza-C, has revealed how she has been coping with childlessness since she got married 11 years ago. In an interview with The Nation, Liza-C, who recently released a single titled I Will Sing, featuring Eben, said: “This is the 11th year of being in a marriage without a child. But it is not an issue in my marriage because my husband and I have come to an understanding on what we want from God. “There was a time we wanted to opt for adoption, but we had to pray and think about the option. We found out that that was not what we wanted. We will adopt, but it will be after we have had our own children who will be twins: a boy and a girl. That is what He has told us.” When asked if there has been pressure from any quarters, she said: “It has got to the stage, where our parents cannot even intervene. That is how close we are. They have seen that they cannot penetrate into any of us. So, the only thing they do is to call and tell us they are praying for us. That is how marriage should be. External bodies should not be allowed, so as to avoid problems in the marriage.” Liza-C, a songwriter, humanitarian and a recording artiste, made her entry into the music scene in 2002 with her hit single, Be Bold. She has three successful albums to her credit: Unstoppable, Gidigba and Expression.
