A deadly inferno hit a home in Anambra State, killing a new born baby, a grandmother and two others leaving several others members of the family badly injured.
The fire which happened at a home in Ezinwafo village, Mbaukwu in Awka South local government area of Anambra State, claimed the life of an elderly woman on a visit to her daughter who just put to birth, the new born baby, a small child who accompanied the grandmother on the visit, and another child who was at the house.
Parents of the child were left with third degree burns and were rushed to the hospital where doctors say they have little chance of survival.
The couple was rushed to a hospital in Awka where they are currently receiving treatment.
The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Amaechi Nwachukwu said the couple was brought in about 5am in a critical condition with 80 per cent burns and some inhalation injuries.
An eye witness, Chineye Nzekwe told Daily independent that the fire incident happened around 2am.
He said when he heard the loud noise he thought it was an armed robbery attack but rushed outide to see the couple who occupied the house running and crawling with fire all over them.
Neighbors’ quick intervention put out the fire of the couple while men of the Anambra State Fire Service helped to douse the inferno.
The Senior Fire Superintendent of the Anambra State Fire Service, Kingsley Nwokoye, said men of the fire service were called when the fire had already done damages but his men however stopped the fire from spreading to other buildings.
Kingsley Nwokoye also deduced from the level of damage that the fire might have been caused by the presence of inflammable materials.
Investigations are however ongoing to ascertain the true cause of the inferno.
